Kerry Washington left and Judy Smith at ABC Press conference Jan. 10, 2012 |
Judy Smith assumes you can separate truth from fiction.
A former NBC spokeswoman and current crisis manager who has counted among her clients Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, Smith is both the executive producer of and the inspiration for Scandal, a new ABC series from Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes. The show revolves around Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), who in the pilot represents the president in a sex scandal.
Is Smith, who has spent some time herself in the White House, worried that people will think Olivia is more closely based on Smith than she is?
She says she is not. "What they've done is done a terrific job in dramatizing that in a very dramatic setting," she says.
